And they're not just any eggs.

You can ship eggs?

Not local to Bedford County? Want to try our delicious and fun-colored eggs? We'll ship them to you! Before shipping out your colorful eggs, we package each egg in bubble wrap within their container, meticulously seal them in a box and address each box as "fragile." You'll also have directions included in your package for care. All eggs that are shipped will not be washed before shipment. But no worries, because your eggs will have what is called a “bloom” or “cuticle.” It is an invisible protective membrane over the shell that seals the egg from oxygen and bacteria. Grocery store eggs do not have this protective layer, so they do not last as long. Your eggs can be left out on your counter for up to three weeks or even up to one month depending on light and moisture conditions. To learn more about the care and shipment of your eggs, visit here. Also check out our product page for updates regarding the inventory of our eggs.

Why people buy our eggs...

For eating/consuming:

Know that you’ll be receiving eggs from happy and healthy hens that are pasture-raised and fed a natural and organic diet. We do not use pesticides or any chemicals on our property and treat any issues with our chickens naturally and holistically. Your eggs will come in different shapes, colors and sizes, too. When cracked open, you'll notice a vibrant, darker color that sets our farm-fresh eggs apart from their store-bought counterparts. And the flavor? Delicious. By choosing our eggs, you're not only nourishing your body with exceptional quality, but you're also supporting our sustainable, ethical farming practices.

For decoration and celebration:

As an avid egg enthusiast, I take great delight in the vibrant, colorful eggs that adorn my home. These natural wonders not only bring me joy, but they also have a way of brightening the lives of others who have purchased them from our farm. The rich hues of these eggs evoke the beautiful promises of God, as seen in the rainbow. Interestingly, eggs hold significant symbolic meaning in Scripture, serving as a representation of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. When you choose to display our farm-fresh eggs as home decor, you will be offering your guests a truly fun, visual treat. Undoubtedly, people will be intrigued to inquire about them. What they may not realize, however, is that the invisible protective membrane covering the eggshell allows for a remarkably long shelf life when left unwashed - up to three weeks on the counter, and sometimes even up to a month depending on the storage conditions and lighting. Embracing the beauty of nature through the incorporation of these vibrant, symbolic, and long-lasting eggs is a fun experience and will hopefully enhance the ambiance of your living space.

As a gift:

Looking to treat a loved one to a truly unique and visually captivating gift? Consider our farm-fresh, artfully colored eggs – a testament to the wonders of nature and a special way to celebrate any occasion. Unlike the uniform, store-bought variety, our eggs showcase a stunning array of hues, from rich, earthy tones to soft, pastel shades that showcases a beautiful reminder of the beauty that can be found in the natural world. Each one is an organic product of our hens' diverse genetic makeup and the care we take in tending to their environment. These one-of-a-kind gems make for an exceptional present that is sure to bring your special person happiness.

For hatching:

The beauty of buying fertilized eggs from our farm is the hands-on, knowledgeable curation. Our hatchlings come from carefully selected lineages to ensure that your birds are kind and gentle, and that they also lay an excellent amount of beautifully colored eggs. We are not a hatchery, but a small farm with a focus on quality, not quantity. *Please reach out to us at bluehillsfarmva@gmail.com, first, before purchasing eggs from us for hatching. We want to guarantee that you’ll receive fertilized eggs when delivered, and so that we can take special steps before gathering your eggs.

Why our eggs?

The Benefits of Farm-Fresh Eggs:

Studies show that farm fresh eggs have less cholesterol and saturated fat than those purchased from the store. Additionally, they also contain 25% more Vitamin E, 75% more beta Carotene and up to twenty times more Omega-3 fatty acids. This is all according to a Mother Earth News Study that has been verified multiple times. Pasture-raised eggs are some of the best sources of Vitamin D you can find!

The Difference in Quality:

Non-organic store-bought eggs are usually laid by hens confined to cages or in large confined barns (that's called cage-free), never seeing the sun. And free-range hens are only allowed outside within their fencing or their cage. When compared to store-bought eggs, our chicken eggs are richer in color, yolk density, freshness, and shell thickness. Our chickens also are free to roam anywhere on our over four-acre property all day, are fed a natural and organic diet, and they are not treated with hormones, steroids or antibiotics of any kind. Transparency and Freshness:

When you choose to purchase our farm-fresh eggs, you not only obtain a healthier product, but you also gain invaluable transparency into the origins of your food. The journey of store-bought eggs can be an arduous one, often taking weeks to travel from the chicken facility to your local grocery store.

Consider this: It can take approximately one week to go from the laying facility to the distributor, then the eggs must be loaded into shipping containers and transported, potentially taking another week or more to reach the grocery shelves. Finally, they must be unloaded and stocked, adding even more time before they end up in your kitchen. The result? Sometimes, your store-bought eggs have been in transit for two to three weeks before you ever crack them open.

In contrast, our farm-fresh eggs have traveled a mere fraction of that distance, ensuring unparalleled freshness. The USDA states that refrigerated eggs can be kept for up to four weeks, but we homesteaders know that our farm-fresh eggs can often be enjoyed for a couple of months. The difference is undeniable – farm-fresh eggs from the source will always surpass the quality and freshness of their store-bought counterparts.

By choosing our farm-fresh eggs, you're not only nourishing your body with a superior product, but you're also supporting a transparent and sustainable food system. Savor the peace of mind that comes with knowing the true origins of your food.
